College & Career Readiness

Fueling our Future Workforce

We help support students learning high-demand skills that can lead to opportunities for continued education and careers. Many of our community partners volunteer time to share their knowledge in the classroom, mentor students in clubs and participate in career events. We work closely with Manassas CIty Public Schools Career & Technical Education program to coordinate community support. The foundation and its partners provide financial or volunteer support for the initiatives shown below.

“The OHS Robotics Team improved my time management, work ethic, CAD knowledge and ability to coordinate with a large team. Those skills helped me seamlessly transition to the workforce after graduation,”

Osbourn High School STEM Academy

More than a dozen community partners helped establish the Governor’s STEM Academy at Osbourn HIgh School, making it one of the first in the region. Students enrolled in the Academy participate in specialized, project-based courses, giving them hands-on experience in one of three chosen pathways: automotive, networking/IT or engineering. These students are also provided opportunities to earn industry certifications, preparing them to be more competitive in the workforce, postsecondary institutions and/or specialized technical training schools.

STEM and Robotics programs

Robotics programs have become an integral part of the strong STEM culture at Manassas City Public Schools. Donors like Micron and Lockheed Martin provide tremendous financial support for Robotics Clubs at every level in the school system. For 15 years, we have been involved in supporting Osbourn’s Robotics Team at the FIRST Robotics competitions. Some of those alumnus moved directly from high school to become employees at Lockheed Martin and now donate hundreds of hours to mentor the Osbourn team. We also invest in discrete projects that help to build, sustain and expand STEM activities at specific schools or grade levels.

Career Connection Program

We support Osbourn High School’s CTE Department in conducting career connections programs that bring together career professionals with interested students to share information and answer questions about skills needed to follow offered pathways. Several of our partners participate in these events and in fact, a number of Osbourn graduates found high-demand jobs as a direct result of these events.
