Manassas, Va. – Students in Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) will enjoy a variety of programs and activities thanks to teachers who successfully applied for MCPS Education Foundation grants to fund a range of innovative programs, including robotics teams, a writing center, a peer mediator program and even a “Famous Living Americans Living Wax Museum.” In total, Manassas teachers were awarded $64,375 grants for the 2015-2016 school year.

“These grants allow us to offer experiential learning that is a valuable extension of what students learn in a classroom setting, bringing those lessons to life,” said Manassas City Public Schools Superintendent Catherine B. Magouyrk, Ed.D. “Manassas City Public Schools is fortunate to have educators who creatively fund, and often develop, these programs for our students.”

The teachers who received grants will be recognized during the Night of Excellence, where Manassas City Public Schools presents achievement awards to its staff and teachers. Additionally, the Manassas City Public Schools Education Foundation will present scholarships to graduating seniors and thank business and community partners for their support. Sponsored by Lockheed Martin, Micron Technologies, Inc. and Ian Lovejoy, Night of Excellence is free and open to the public, and takes place May 26, 6:00 pm at Verizon Auditorium at George Mason University in Manassas, Va.
